THE NETHERLANDS BY GUIRRI TOUR | Discovering the land of flowers

by

Colors, so many colors everywhere! If speaking about lavender, the mind takes us to Provence, speaking of tulips, we fly to Holland.

With five months in advance we began to study an itinerary that would bring my friends in search of unforgettable colors, scents and landscapes among the Dutch canals in the best month of the year for the flowering of tulip, hyacinth and narcissus fields: April.

Unfortunately, the flowering is subject to the continuous climatic variations, that every year anticipate or postpone the show in the fields of Flevoland and Lisse.

We arrived a week later than the maximum flowering of the fields; all caused by the sudden "explosion" of almost summer temperatures in the middle of the month.

ARE THE FIELDS EASILY LOCATED?

First, we recommend renting a car to be totally independent in moving between the most countryside and hidden streets, otherwise we would not have been able to find the best fields.

Arm yourself with patience, because for several kilometers you will not see any flowery field, or, some in the distance, impossible to reach by road. The bicycle is the best alternative if you want to go along the amazing cycle paths that cut in every direction the many flowered and non-flowering fields. Everywhere you will find signs prohibiting and from experience we can tell that the owners are really unfriendly, rightly so; we would all be by seeing people entering the flowers without asking permission.

Small anecdote: we went first through the gate of a dirt path that leads to a wonderful orange field; after about ten minutes, three more cars of tourists, armed with cameras, were ready to imitate us. In distance, the owner approached and, without shouting, puts a nice bolt on the gate, closing in all the curious. I leave to your imagination the ups and downs to climb over the rain-soaked gate.

LISSE OR FLEVOLAND?

We found many more fields east of Amsterdam, in the Flevoland area, often also close to the main road. Astonishment is the first reaction that will captivate you in seeing infinite colors, shades and nuances that characterize a field rather than another. You will see totally unexpected shapes! At Lisse, the fixed appointment is with the must of every on the road of this period: Keukenhof.

For just 8 weeks, the gates of the Garden of Europe open up, ready to welcome more than one million tourists amidst lawns, flower beds and idyllic streams. I think it is impossible to describe in words the beauty and care that characterizes this park! You absolutely must visit it!
